The PNG and GIF versions of the image have a transparency added to them, so they can be used on any background color. The JPG has a white edge to it as seen and should be used with a white background web page. Traditionally, the PNG and GIF are stable images and do not have the blocky look of a JPG, so the Coalition’s webmasters recommend using the PNG or the GIF over the JPG for your website.
